What is the big Other saying to the Yugoslav? Don't trust the big Other!
Yugoslav is a Hegelian, as it were, by historical necessity, by the necessity of circumstances: she identifies with ideology precisely in the way that she doubts it. As a means of survival, people construct counter-ideology within ideology itself: the very process of ideological interpellation is characterized by self-sabotage. A man enters the store and says: you don't have meat? No, sir, we are a store that does not have fish, a store that does not have meat is across the street.
